Can anybody explain to me what are the differences in

file formats when saving in 2007, 2010 or 2013. I always save

in 2010 because it can handle much bigger drawings, but what

is the deal with the 2013 file format.

Every three years or three versions Acad tweek the dwg file. Like when dynamic blocks etc come out the dwg file needs to change to accomodate this. Also it keeps other programs guessing

Welcome to the forum. :)

Planned obsolescence.

An earlier version will not be able to open a 2013 file, there are free enablers available from Autodesk,

but they would be more than happy if everybody just bought the latest version as soon as it was offered,

even before they get it working correctly. The latest file version will have nonretro-compatible features,

so it is often a good idea to consider with whom you will be sharing your drawings, as you may need to set your 2013 software

default to save as a 2007 or 2010 file format.
