Printing to PDF from AutoCAD 2010 and the PDF file is huge. What do I do?

I am printing a Layout that has 3 Viewports. The View ports are of an aerial photograph that is a 600DPI TIFF file about 1GB in size. When I print the single sheet 24x36 the PDF file is 75mb

I am new to Acrobat X, I had been using version 7. I remember there being a reduce file size option in the old version but I cant find it in X.

Does anyone have any tips on getting the printed PDF file smaller? Is it something I can do in AutoCAD or Acrobat?

Details:

  • AutoCAD 2010
  • Win 7 Machine
  • 8GB RAM
  • 2.8 ghz i7
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro X

Thanks!!!

are you going through plot and then dwg to pdf? I am not sure, but you might get a smaller file size if you go through file-publish.

I print directly to PDF. I will give file-publish a shot

That reduced it to 4.5mb which is better than 75!!! Thank you!
