Can't Open dwg file

grain

Recommended Posts

After being sent a dwg file first didn't have shape files (dgnlstyle-BuildingLinestyles.shx) and then when the file opened in LT 2009 the ucs was askew and wouldn't correct when set to 'World'. Also there didn't appear to be any layouts only the model space.

I am questioning myself because I recently put this onto a new laptop with windows 8.1.

Is it true it won't run in windows 8

Any help appreciated

John

It will run but you could experience some problems. That's the downside to running an older piece of software under the latest operating system. Since it is LT and not full AutoCAD (meaning it is primarily a 2D CAD program) why don't you do yourself a favor and download the 2D CAD program by Dassault Systemes called DraftSight and the companion Getting Started guide. Both are FREE and the CAD program comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. DraftSight is an AutoCAD-clone so it can read and write to the .DWG file format. The commands are very similar although you will come across some differences but they are really minor. You should feel right at home using the program after a day or two of heavy use.

As far as the problem with the drawing you are experiencing had you expected there to be any layouts? Did someone tell you that?

Attach a copy of the .DWG file to your next post. Someone here will take a look at it.

As ReMark says posting the drawing, will allow someone to check it, it could well be that the drawing wasn't aligned to the world ucs to start with.

1.) The shape files need to be provided to you by the source of the file.

2.) There is always at least one layout. Is that what you meant or did you mean there is nothing in the layout? Are you having trouble finding a way to see the layout(s)?

3.) As to the UCS, if you already set it to world, and it is still at an angle then it's the view that needs to be changed. Changing the UCS value should get you there. Alternatively, you could use the DView command.
