Area of the hatch??!!

Hello all,

 

I am currently working on a project where i am trying to find out the floor area of a building. The floor area is hatched, normally when I type 'list' it comes up with the area but not this time!!??

 

I have had this problem before and can not figure out what it is, any idea's??

Some more info may be needed-

 

Acad 08 LT, building layout with rooms in polylines hatched.

It sounds like the hatch pattern was created with an older version of AutoCAD that didn't support area in hatch objects. Type CONVERT and see if that updates the object.

 

If that doesn't work, double click on the hatch and check the option to recreate the boundary. Delete the old hatch and then rehatch it.

I have a CAD file that was produced from Illustrator (I know, probably not a good idea). It is a file of an entire university campus where I am wanting to find the area of impervious surfaces. So The DWG Works great in CAD and it is one large hatch with a boundary - not a bunch of individual hatches. When I select it in CAD, the area does not show up in the properties dialogue. Is this because the command I am asking CAD to much of a task...I have every campus path and parking lot on it aka there are probably half a million lines.

 

Any insight as how to get an area from illustrator Dwg in autocad would be greatly appreciated. I am using 2013 LT

here comes dum-dum again would it be possible to erase the hatch - get the area - than use the redo command ???? :unsure:
