cadmench
I have been trying to put "insert" from the Acad 2008 pulldown menu on my ACAD.PGP file as an alias "I" I, *_INSERT This is the line I am putting in the ACAD.PGP file It is not working. When I use the pulldown and then go backwards on my command line I see that this command is " _insert " When I type this command in it works fine. But, when I put it into the ACAD.PGP file as an alias it will not work. Does anyone know why? I have tried several other aliases "In" "Is" none of them work. Cad64
After you changed your PGP file, did you reinitialize it? Type REINIT at the command line to open the "Re-initialization" dialog. Put a check in the "PGP File" checkbox and hit OK. Now your change should take effect.

Leave the underscore off, they don't work in the pgp. Why do you want the underscore in front of the command? Just curious. As you probably know the underscore is used in non-english versions of AutoCAD and force the program to recognize the english command. smorales02
Isnt the alias for INSERT already I????
cadmench
yes the shortcut for insert is normally "I" for the command line. I want to have an alias for the version of insert that uses the dialog box that appears when you use the pulldown, or button at the top of the autocad screen. The reason I used the underscore is this. I used the pulldown to activate the insert command. I then checked the command line ( backed up to see what command was in the command line) so that I would know what command invokes the pulldown or dialog window version for insert. Yes I did reinitialize the pgp file before trying to use the new alias. by the way if I leave the underscore off I just get the same insert that appears when you type in insert on the command line. That one does not invoke the dialog box for insert.
rkent
This is from my pgp which is the default settings. The first one will open the dialog, the second one will give you the prompt at the command line. Again, don't put the underscore in the pgp, as you found out it doesn't work. I, *INSERT -I, *-INSERT
cadmench
I just went back to some of the other settings for insert ( those that are not at the end of the pgp file) . I cleared all of them out and then the only "I" that I had in the pgp was for insert. that cleared up the problem thanks rkent
Dipali
To invoke the dialguebox version of Insert from command line, you need to type 'DDINSERT' so use that instead of _insert in your pgp file
