LilleL
Does anyone know how to save STEP-files from AutoCAD-drawings?? Thanks
JD Mather
Use the STLOUT command. Consult AutoCAD Help for further details. STL file is not the same as STEP (*.stp) AutoCAD Help will not help answer this question. STEP file will preserve all of the features including NURBS surfaces. STL converts all faces to faceted triangles. Vanilla AutoCAD does not have a STEP translator (actually earlier versions did have translator with STEPOUT as the command). Now AutoCAD Mechanical and perhaps other AutoCAD verticals have STEP translator. Another option is to download the free Inventor LT (http://labs.autodesk.com) and Import the dwg and then Save Copy As type STEP. A final option is to post the dwg file in the Inventor forum here and request that someone do the translation to STEP for you.
ReMark
Wow, I really blew it big time there. Thanks for pointing out my erroneous information JDM. I should have been more careful. The post has been removed.
