Enfiel3D
Greetings everybody! It is easy to create linear diameter when full cylinder is visible. I wonder if it is possible to create it when only smaller part of the cylinder is visible, like when detail view is used? Sometimes to make such view is the only option. Of course, it is possible to create it about any feature and override the value manually. But it is possible to keep the value associative? I tried to go into the text editor and hide the dimension value, after which it's possible to enter an expression, but that makes it impossible to add tolerance values. Inventor 2009. MarkFlayler
Here is what you need to do: Right click on your detail view and choose automated centerlines. Choose the type for your cylinder and projection method, hit apply. You should get a centerline way off to the side. Create a general dimension with this and do the same method to create a linear diameter. After you get your value, just hide the centerline.
