Creating a button to insert an xref (I think?)

Hey,

I couldn't really think how to title this, but basically, I have seen add-ons for CAD (I don't have a great knowledge, I'm a civil engineering student with some CAD experience) where you can just click a button and it will insert a standard I-beam.

Last year as part of a summer job, I assembled a grid of all the standard drawings they used in highways, with a corresponding spreadsheet so they could just go in and copy the drawing they need into their current drawing.

I am going back to the same department this summer and I'd quite like to take this idea a bit further by adding something similar to the thing I described previously, like if they clicked a kerbs button then they'd get a selection of standard kerbs and then it'd just insert that drawing.

There are some 'minor' flaws in that I have no idea how it's done, if it's difficult, and I have no idea how to find out.

Could someone give me some advice as to where I'd find out about this kind of thing? I'm not expecting anyone to show me how to do it or anything, just if they could point me in the right direction, or at least say if it's easy enough.

Thanks

Kev

(I hope that makes some sort of sense to somebody)

Sounds like you should look into using Toolpalettes.

Aw that's excactly what I wanted!

Thanks a lot

One question, I'm using CAD 2010 (We lucky students get it for free :D) and it works perfectly, excactly as I'd wanted.

But in the office they used 2006 (or 4?) can't remember and LT would the same thing work for these? and would it look the same?

Thanks again, that's brilliant!
