why blocks in layer 0 is good practice ?

Because if the block consists soley of objects on layer 0, the block will assume the properties of whatever layer it is inserted on.

If on the other hand the objects are on other layers, the components of the block will always be on those layers, and not on the layer that the block is insert on.

This is best explained by doing so try it out yourself and see.

just to avoid misunderstanding - it is the component parts of the blocks which should (usually) be on layer 0 - the block itself can be on any layer you like.

try making a few blocks on a few layers, with some objects on layer 0 and some not, then freezing off various layers. you'll (probably) find you prefer the performance of the block made the recommended way. it's good practice because it works best that way.

If you copy blocks from drawing to drawing you don't get replicated or similar layer names i.e. Electrics, Electrical, electrical etc.

If you want the same blocks on different viewports i.e floor plans and reflected ceiling plans you can just change the layer name of the block.

I always set the colours to by block so I can make some blocks more defined than others.
