3D poly tot 2D poly

Hi guys,

I'ld like to make a VBA program that scrolls through my drawing searching for 3D poly's, changing them to 2D poly's. Not that difficult, but I was wondering how to go through the vertexes of the 3D polyline, so I can use the X and Y to draw the 2D poly.

Step by step learning FTW!

Thanks for the help!

I might be over-simplyfing things, but why not just Explode the 3D-poly? :?

That sounds smart to me, just filter for 3d POLYLINES, select all and EXPLODE. Of course if you need to work with them later and they have become separate lines it is a bit messy compared to them being POLYLINES. Sort of like blowing up a SOLPROF block and netting a quickly and accurately drawn can of worms.

Well, the problem is that some of the lines might be closed, and just lines aren't good enough. Drawing a new poly on to of the 3D line is the easiest way out, I'm afraid.

Ah. I was under the assumption that Exploding a 3D-poly would get you a 2D-poly, sorry 'bout that.

but...can you draw a 2D-poly with differing Z-values on the different vertixes? Or do you want a flat representation of the 3D-poly? FLATTEN perhaps?

You could do that, by setting your drafting preference to disregard negative Z values while snap tracing the 3D POLYLINES.

Just adjust these drafting preferences in your OPTIONS.
