Extruding Modeling Operation Error: Lateral curve does not intersect to_surface

Hi:

I keep getting this message. I know others have posted about it- but back int 2006 (http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?5505-extruding-problem). The referenced link showing the solution is no longer available.

I read on an archived blog somewhere that is was a glitch in autocad2005. I am running 2010- so I don't get it. I really need to extrude these plines so any help would be fantastic!

Attach the dwg file here.

How far from the origin is the geometry?

How long is the pline?

How big is the profile?

Will Sweep work (or is your problem not really like the link you referenced)?

HI:

Thanks you for your help. It was all drawn in 2-D so I don't understand what the problem is. I did some investigating and some of the x-refed topos were from autoCad 2005 so I know that could be an issue. So far I've flattened it, purged all x-ref layers and now I'm using overkill to simplify the drawing. Is there a way to only attach 1 layer? the file is huge - its a site plan drawn at 1:10000 scale. What can I do?

this is all I can find= many of the links are down (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=621440

this old autocad post says that could be the problem (http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-2000-2000i-2002-Archive/2000i-bug/m-p/116841/highlight/true#M377730) (03-30-2001 07:09 AM in reply to: *Puckett, Michael

If this is a tolerance issue the same happens on other geometry kernels not

just ACIS such as Parasolid when throwing extreme ranges at it for

computation. Much of this is due to the limitation of computing and as I

understand it, the floating point numbers range limitation when calculating

points. I am not sure this is the case but it could very well be.

Also Here it says it could be there units: (http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Drafting-Techniques/problems-with-3d-path/td-p/69390)

100,000 "units" is the limit in AutoCAD for an extrusion path.

From Help topic "Error: Lateral curve does not intersect to surface":

This is a limitation of the ACIS solid modeler component in the software

program.

For the modeler to have reasonable performance the range of the modeling

values must be limited. The range for our modeler is 1e-6 to 1e4.

This means that 0.00001 and 100000.0000009 are considered valid values for

ACIS modeling functions, whereas 0.000001 and 100000.00001 are not. Modeling

operations that occur near or beyond the limits of the model range might not

be well-defined. These can include other operations besides the extrude

command.

To work around this problem, make two smaller extrusion heights and then use

the UNION command to join these two solids together.
