MRI scanned model

Hi Guys

I recently got my hands on an STL file of a scanned model I am trying to recreate. I have managed to import it into 3ds Max after 3 days of processing, but I cannot import into inventor from there. Somebody suggested that I try Solidworks. I was able to open the mesh in a matter of minutes and create the surfaces, so I now have a file with this data. I have however not been able to define the planes and Axis that I need and I wanted to move the part to inventor to see if I can do the necessary changes there. Does anybody know if this is the right move?

Any advice would be appreciated. My end goal is to create slices of the model that I can then cut 2D and create a skeleton of the model.

The STL file is around 87MB if my memory is correct. The 3ds Max file was about 3-4GB. I am unsure of the Solidworks file size. I will check the sizes tonight and post them.

I will also give that plug-in a try.

Thanks

Unless you just want to import into Inventor for editing or changes, Autodesk 123D Make, will do what you say you want direct from an .STL file.
