Rotating text within a linetype

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'll start by saying that I'm using Civil 3D 2012...I've made a custom line type and am having issues with it. Basically, I'm trying to get the text (Green line with 4's) to flip around from it's current orientation, see attachment. I have already tried the REVERSE and MIRROR commands, with no success. Thanks in advance for the help.

Your attachment was too small to see what was going on.

As you have Windows 7, try the Snipping Tool to give a picture of the action.

Also it would be helpful if you would post the text of your linetype definition.

Yes, I meant to put the linetype definition in, but forgot...here it is...

*4INTEMPBYPASS,4 IN TEMP BYPASS ----4-----4----4-----4----4-----4--

A,.25,-.1,["4",STANDARD,S=.1,U=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.2

I have also attached a zoomed in picture.

As you are using the "U" factor, the text should be upright, i.e. it should turn so that it can always be read from the bottom of the drawing or from the right hand side (I think).

This means that the REVERSE and MIRROR commands will not do any good.

Why it is upside down in your drawing could be due to several factors. Are you using a strange UCS? Are your angles anticlockwise and is the angle zero to the East.

The trouble with using the "U" factor is that AutoCAD can change the text as it sees fit.

I would suggest that you substitute the "U" for an "R". Then your line should respond to the REVERSE command.

Thanks for the advise, I will try that and see how it works. The drawings itself is rotated in the paper space (layout view)...that is how the client wanted it, not sure why, possibly for viewing purposes. So in model space it wasn't an issue, I was not thinking about how it would display when the layout was rotated, I'll be more cautious next time :)

Perhaps the "U" factor is not clever enough to know that it is in a rotated viewport. Something to be sorted in the next version.
