irishobo
Ok I have designed the gear and extruded it. I am now trying to cut the teeth into it. The cut selection under extrude will only allow me to cut the gear out and leaves the left over pieces. I need the gear not the pieces. Thanks in advance. The Ninja Style
I haven't used inventor in a while but I think you have to hit the second box down in the middle of the dialog box. I'll check when I get home.
irishobo
Yes it is the second button down. I was just illustrating the view i get. I am unable to cut the left over pieces out of the teeth. It cuts the whole gear out instead.
Cad64
I have moved your question to the Inventor section. For best results, always post your questions in the relevant section of the forum that pertains to the software you are using.
The Ninja Style
sorry I should have zoomed in farther I'm on my phone. Use the third button down its intersect. Or you could use the tool to create gears. the sketch you have is all you need for the profile of the gear. The solid in the background is not needed. Edit: if it doesn't work hit the button with a plane with an arrow on it to extrude the shape the other direction and use the third button down. irishobo
Use the third button down its intersect. The intersect worked beautifully thank you very much. I havent worked with the gear tool yet. It doesn't show up in the ribbon when building a part. I assume you have to build it in an assembly. The Ninja Style
Glad I could help. I think the gear tool is in assembly, it's a little daunting at first but once you figure out what values you need it's really only a few inputs. inginerul
the teeth are made using some calculation or just your imagination?
irishobo
I had a pdf to go by. The company only had pdf copies of a lot of old drawings. They contracted my company to make 3d models of the parts.
JD Mather
It looks like you have patterned a sketch rather than a feature. There should be no need for repeating dimensions (or constraints). That is almost always the wrong way. (Edit the sketch and right mouse button and select Show all Constraints. What do you see?) Attach your *.ipt file here. Show all constraints seems to show alot of problems. Here is the *.ipt file. I would appreciate any advice you have.
JD Mather
I will get back to this when I get a chance. I don't normally go to 3rd party sites to download files. For those who want to take a look - here is the file with the EOP rolled up. There are a lot of improvements that can be made on this one.
