Dashed line illustration of a hidden part inside of an assembly in drawing Inventor

Hi All,

I have a hidden part inside of an assembly. how can I show just that part in dashed line?

In an .iam you could make a new Level of Detail "LoD" and suppress any other internal parts except the one you want to see in hidden line. Then display as shaded with hidden edges, or wireframe with hidden edges. Of course you would also see the hidden edges of the external parts. In a .dwg/.idw use the same LoD when you create a view and then select the hidden line style button. You can also select the object lines in a drawing view and change the line type properties, visibility, etc...

Nah, skip the LOD thing. All that will do for you is cause trouble down the road when it comes to editing / saving when you've got both parts & drawings open at the same time. It's a MAJOR hassle.

If you want to have just one part visible with hidden lines on the inside, create a View Rep instead of an LOD. Make everything except the outside shell and the single inside part invisible. Go back to your drawing, and place a view on the sheet, and set it to use your new View Rep. At this point, you'll have (probably) some extra dashed lines from any features that your outside shell part might have had. You can get rid of those by Shift-Right-Click and set your selection priority to FEATURE, right click on some of the extra hidden lines, then SELECT AS EDGES, and then right click again and turn off visibility.

It might be a little more time consuming than using the LOD, but in the long run you'll pull out less hair when you have to edit or save some part of your assembly while the drawing is open.
