Tuck
Ok, I used to be pretty proficient at AutoCAD. Then I switched to a different firm that used Microstation. Now I'm with another firm and back on CAD, so I'm having to relearn a lot of stuff. So here is my issue: I have a drawing that I did not set up (it was already set up when I got here). I have a lot layout tabs (23 to be exact) and the viewports on most of them are at 20 scale. Some are at 30 and one is at 60. I would like to only have one text layer with annotative text so I don't have the same info on 3 different layers, right? My problem is, in order to get the viewports to zoom to 20 scale, I have to type z>s>1/240xp. When I do this, a 20' line in mspace is a 1" line in pspace. When I use the standard 1:20 annotation scale, a 20' line in mspace is a 1' line in pspace. (The same goes for the 30 and 50 scale viewports, but a 30' line=1" etc...) Because of this, I can't apply the correct annotative scales to my text. What is wrong? I know it's simple. I've tried changing dimscale. Doesn't do anything. I've tried changing units. No dice. Can someone help me please??
ReMark
Your text has to be annotative which means if it is going to show up in three different viewports, each with a different scale, then you need to apply the 20, 30 and 60 scales to your text objects. AutoCAD 2014 I see. You do know that there are easier ways to set viewport scales other than through the Zoom > Scale method don't you? Haven't you come across scale lists? RobDraw
There is a huge difference between 1:20 and 1"=20'. The scale factor that you applied with the xp method is for 1"=20'. The scales expressed as a ratio, 1:20, 1:30 etc., are used for metric drawings.
Tuck
Scalelists! That's what I was missing! Like I said, I used to be pretty good in AutoCAD a few years ago. 3 years of Microstation and I've forgotten about 75% of what I knew. I just created a new scale in the scale list. Named it "1"=20'" and set 1 paper unit=240 drawing units. Same for 1"=30', 1"=60', 1"=100' and so forth. (I have a lot of sheets with different overall and enlarged plans.) There may be a simpler way to do this in the future, but considering I have a deadline Tuesday this will work. Thanks for the input!
ReMark
What if you opened your default template file and edited, scalelist then saved it over the old .tmp file?
