Previous Layer Macro

I am trying to insert a symbol but I want to make sure it goes on the right layer, so I am writing a simple macro that will be attached to an icon that, when the user clicks it, will change to the notes layer then insert the block. My question is, is there any command in AutoCAD that will allow me to change the current layer back to the previous layer before the insert?

Here is the current macro:

^C^C-LAYER;SET;09-NOTES;;GRIDLINE.DWG;/;;
