designerstuart
hi all anyone know a magic way of adding a new layer without it showing up in all the paperspace viewports i have already created? sort of like the 'frozen in new layers' box, but for existing VPs. follow? thanks
BlackBox
AFAIK, you can either Freeze the layer using -LAYER Command, etc., or to use -VPLAYER Command (for each Viewport) to do same... Otherwise, custom code is needed. Cheers

designerstuart
dammit! thanks blackbox. just to clarify, i want to draw some new geometry in my model space. but this must not show up in any of the existing layouts, because they are perfect! i will then create a new layout with a viewport that does show the new geometry. for this reason i cannot just freeze the layer off completely. the only workarounds i can think of are: 1 draw the new geometry in paperspace - not very tidy! 2 do some sort of xref which you only load when you view that layout thing. terrible! RobDraw
Some of the new enhancements to the command line. Not available in 2009. BlackBox
FWIW - Layer Manager silently invokes the appropriate LAYER and VPLAYER Command to do what you manually perform within the Palette's UI. This can be observed using MgdDbg Events; here's a quick video demonstration. Cheers
