adrath
I'm having trouble getting C3D to assign names to COGO points I create. I'm working on a grading plan and need to show some spot grades. Our label styles are set up to show elevation and then description, which is very useful for distinguishing between top of curb, gutter etc. We use the description field to add "TC", "GUT" or "EX" or whatever else we need to clarify what the spot elevation is. This means that I can't use the description field to add the points to a finished ground point group to easily control labels and styles. Most people here use the "select from drawing" option in the point group properties, but I hate having to do that over and over again as I keep adding proposed spot grades. So I tried setting the group to include points with a name of fg* and then set my default point naming template to fg). However, when I create points in the drawing with these settings, the "Point Name" field in the properties palette always shows up as "property not set". Is there an extra setting I need to turn on in order to automatically add point names on point creation? I can go back and add point names manually but that pretty much defeats the purpose of what I'm trying to do, which is automatically include points in a point group without having to do anything other than create them. As a side note, I'm running Civil 3D 2014 and using the CREATEPOINTMANUAL command.
BlackBox
In your Point Group's Properties, Include tab, try instead checking 'With raw descriptions matching:' to FG*, as example. This will allow you to have several Point Groups established, with individually defined Point, and Point Label Styles, and even when adding points via CREATEPOINTMANUAL Command, they'll be automagically displayed accordingly.
