lrm Posted January 14, 2015 Share Posted January 14, 2015 There are several options for creating good quality line drawings from AutoCAD of 3D models with hidden lines removed. Here are a few. I am sure others will have their preferred method. PDF In AutoCAD change the Visual Style to hidden and then use File, Export and choose PDF. EPS format 1. Set DISPSILH to 1 (to get rid of facet edges) 2. Set the Visual Style to 2D Wireframe 3. Rotate you view using 3D Orbit to the desired orientation. 4. Give the HIDE command. 5. Check the smoothness of curves. If they show too few chords give the OPTIONS command and increase the value of "Rendered object smoothness" from the default of 0.5 to something larger such s 2.0. Type REGEN and HIDE again to see the results. 6. Use the FLATTEN command to make the geometry 2D. You will be given an option to keep or discard hidden lines. 7. Use File, Export, Other Formats to save the file in eps format. As a line drawing in MS Word Here's the method I use most often for creating good line drawings for use in Word. It is a bit awkward but yields great, efficient, scalable line drawings that are well suited for a user manual. Follow the step 1 to 6 above. 7. Select everything you want for your output drawing. 8. Use Ctrl-C to copy the selected geometry to the clipboard. In Microsoft Word 9. Click Paste, Paste Special and choose the Picture (Windows Metafile) option NOT the AutoCAD Drawing Object option. 10. Right-click on the image and choose Edit Picture. 11. At this point you can select individual lines or groups of lines. You can change line weights and color. I recommend a line weight of 0.75 for medium lines, 0.25 or 0.5 for thin lines, and 1.5 for thick lines. 12. Select all the lines and right-click and choose Group. 13. right-click the geometry again and choose More Layout Options... Size, and check the box to fix the aspect ratio.
