Blocks getting inserted at wrong scale

Recommended Posts

I ALWAYS work in the metric scale. ALL my drawings are metric.

However when I bring in blocks / drawings using insert, very often these new blocks come in at either a very large scale or a very small scale. I need to change units to inches or mm to bring in blocks at the correct scale.

Is there any way to standardise this ...... ???

Thanks

Use the -DWGUNITS command (include the hyphen, it is important).

You may need to expand your commandline history (F2), so that you can see

enough information at one time, so that you can understnd what is going on.

Go SLOWLY, read the commandline prompts CAREFULLY, and you should be able to figure it out.

Create a COPY of one of your drawings, upon which to explore this wonderful and informative function.

Often times people mistakenly use the default Autocad template, which is INCH based, when starting a new

drawing (which they intend to be METRIC).

As you always draw METRIC, presumably you have selected one of the METRIC based templates

to be your QNEW default template.

In OPTIONS, on the FILES tab, go to the TEMPLATE SETTINGS and choose, if you haven't previously,

an appropriate METRIC template, which you can specify as your default for the QNEW button.

The METRIC templates either end in ISO, or will say metric, if they don't, then they are Imperial INCH based. :)

Thanks so much...... Shall try that out in office tomorrow.

I think you are correct in your assumption..... I use the acad template .... Not the Acadiso template.....

Thanks for your help :)

This is a preview of what to expect when you run the -DWGUNITS command.

You still need to read the command prompts carefully and slowly.

The default Metric unit is mms, which is what I use in my detailing work,

as you are working in Architecture, you MAY prefer to select Meters as your

unit of measure, maybe not. You should choose whichever is deemed the

industry standard wherever you are working.

Measurements such as AREA and LENGTH will be reported in whichever units

you specify at this point, so think about it.

Do you want area measurements to report in SQUARE METERS or SQUARE MILLIMETERS?

Go with whichever unit is prefered by the architectural community in your area.

Do you want to enter 1,000 for a line of length one meter, or just enter 1,

meaning your drawing units can be whichever works best for you?

I suggest you create a personal .dwt TEMPLATE which checks all of your boxes, give it a name tha you will remember, most proficient users will have one or many, ready for different kinds of tasks.

After creating one, you should specify that as you default QNEW template, as described in one of my earlier posts. :|
