Dirk vander Kooij Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Hi there, I would like to slice the solid I draw in Inventor in somewhat 80 layers of 9mm thick and the export these as DXF's. (See attachment) Within the .ipt of the solid, I made a workplane, and created an sketch and used Project Cut Edges, extruded and then made it Adaptive. With Rectangular Pattern I tried to duplicate this 80 times, but all the layers remained the same. I have tried the similar thing in an Assembly by creating a new part, with the goal to Pattern this in to 80 layers. But I got the same result. With a former solid I did it all manually, resulting in a very depressive Dirk at the end of the day. Anyone has an brighter solution? Cheers, Dirk. Quote
shift1313 Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Im confused as why you need to split the file up for FDM? Are you running the machine or sending the file off? typically files are saved in a certain format. I send stuff off for FDM and SLA all the time and typically its an STL file with certain parameters during the save process specified by the company. Breaking your layers down to 9mm increments will not produce a very nice model. Do achieve what you want you can go into a 3d sketch and use the intersection curve feature by selecting your solid and your plane. Quote
Dirk vander Kooij Posted November 29, 2009 Author Posted November 29, 2009 Thanks for your reply Matt. The problem is that I do not want to sent to an existing FDM printer, but I am building sort of an big FDM printer myself. The software of the existing printers are protected and would not allow you to export G-codes. As I wil graduate in two weeks I am forced to do it by hand. (After graduating I will continue with this project) Though I am able to the same with Project Cut Edges as Intersection Curve, it is a lot of work. Perfect would be something like an plugin that slices, and better one that will allow you to generate toolpaths, for the FDM process. Quote
shift1313 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 how big is the chair? I dont know of any way off hand to do this automatically sorry. Maybe there is some way for you to save as an stl file and read this in your software? How is your interface setup? sorry i cant be more help Quote
