DannyB Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Hi I've been contacted in regards to importing ACad DWG files into Solidworks to make them 3D. I assume this is by importing the DWG and copying the sketch to make them 3D (essentially). Since I normally do all my solidworks sketches in SW, I haven't been required to do this up until now. Without having SW on this machine or a DWG to hand yet.... Is it a simple operation ? Thanks Quote
shift1313 Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 SW does have a dwg functionality. Im not sure if its included in all versions of solidworks but yes its fairly easy. Solidworks also makes use of Blocks and its pretty easy to insert a Block from Acad into a SW sketch. Next time you are in SW go to Tools>add-ins and make sure any dwg translators are turned on. Then start a sketch and i believe you can just go to the Insert menu. Also if you just try to open the dwg with SW you can insert it into its own part file or into one you are currently working in(or a drawing file). Quote
DannyB Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Thanks Matt. I will give it a go. I did think there would be more than one way to do this. Quote
