Showing field entries as blank (on purpose)

Sorry to just dip in here for advice when I've not been around for a while, a bit leechy admittedly.

Just trying to set up a new drawing block for my new company. What I want to do is to have a number of field entries in a table, showing revision descriptions. The first field is a date, but I obviously don't want it to show up until the field is updated, and until that point is should just show a blank, or --/--/-- or xx/xx/xx or similar.

Is this possible?

you can

hold the alt key down and type 0160 and you should have a blank space in the field
