Unable to run commands after picking selection set.

So I recently had my workstation upgraded to Civil 3D 2012 and now when I use the software I have an issue. If I select any entities (lines, arc, circles, etc.) I am not able to run any commands. For example if I select a line I would like to delete and then click the delete button, it will unselect all that I have selected and I have to reselect each item. Not a big hassle at first but 5 days in, it is driving me nuts. :?

 

Any ideas or tips? Maybe it is a system variable that I am overlooking?
