Any plotter recomendtions

My HP750C plotter has finally been laid to rest. Can anybody recommend a good replacement? Preferably under £2k.

I have an old Ioline LP-4000 pen plotter...want it? LOL

We have always used the HP DesignJet 1050 CM. Love that plotter. Easy to use, relatively inexpensive (if you buy it refurbished). However, they don't make them anymore, so new drivers are impossible to find. They don't even make a 64 bit driver. Fun for the boss with the new computer!

As a matter of fact, you, can. It uses a rapidograph (i forget the part number) but last time I looked, which was about a year ago, there were all sorts of them still around. It can use several different ones too, and pencils as well.

Back in 1985 when this thing was built, it was the Cadillac of pen plotters. I think the company I worked for paid almost $5000 for it, but it was state of the art. We actually had 2 of them, and they sat and ran all day long. My kids loved to watch it work. It would draw some lines, then go work on some text, then zip back across the page and draw something else. Made lots of racket in the process. It's a serial device too, and at the time would keep your machine occupied. You couldn't do anything else while it was plotting because if you tabbed out to another application it would stop running. IT guys never did figure out how to make it run in the background. I drag it out and power it up once in a while. It will do a test plot all on its own. Takes some funky cable that you can't buy, you have to make one yourself and most computers these days don't even have serial ports anymore. Its big enough to plot a full size road map, and will hold up to 32 pens. Grand old machine for its day.
