ACAD 2011 - Freeze when using Open command

I am using AutoCAD 2011, Windows XP, and starting this past Monday, AutoCAD began freezing when I use the OPEN and even when I close the block editor BEDIT commands.

Things that I have tried...

1. Repair - Worked the first time I restarted AutoCAD.

2. Reinstall - Worked for one day.

3. Alt+Space -> M - When doing Alt+Space, the move option is greyed out.

4. FILEDIA 0 - Using this to see if the info would be written on the command line, it still freezes.

As for virus scanner, I use Trend, as I know that Norton has had it's own issues. The problem is a localized issue on my computer as no one else here is having these issues.

Sounds like something got screwed up in the Windows Registry in my opinion.

Do you know the best way to fix the Windows Registry? Looking into registry cleaners, I've found that many of them can contain Trojans, or is this something that could be fix through a Defrag?

This happened to me just the other day. I looked here for an answer and came across this thread. Come to find out, the problem was located in the "project.dfm" file. This file is created when using ACAD 09 with Land Development Desktop to associate drawings to projects and the database. (as far as I know anyway) Well, the "project.dfm" file, for some reason, was looking at our entire X drive which contains ALL of our current projects. Therefore, ACAD would seem to "freeze" because it was looking through all of the projects. I changed the path to my current project and it works great. Haven't had the problem since.

I think the issue was caused by some server maintenance that was completed by our IT group just the weekend prior. Hope this helps anyone else that may have ran into this.
