ReMark Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 According to an article I read in Ralph Grabowski's Upfront.eZine AutoDesk has raised the cost of upgrading, of the last six releases, from 50% to 70% of the full purchase price. An upgrade from any version older than that will cost the user the full price (no change in that policy). All you users of older versions of AutoCAD may want to give some serious thought as to the financial impact this is going to have on your bottom line if you are seriously thinking of upgrading. Do I see more people/companies switching to an AutoCAD-clone? Quote
BIGAL Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Be glad your not in AUS there was a news item on TV last night about big companies ripping of Aussies how can a Autocad dvd cost about 20% more here in Aus when our exchange rate is above the US dollar check out our price for Autocad. Quote
ReMark Posted May 17, 2012 Author Posted May 17, 2012 Everyone knows that Aussies have so much money they don't mind paying more for anything they buy! Quote

f700es Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Makes that $500 a year per seat subscription a no-brainer. As for using a clone, we can't. We use a very custom 3rd party app that is tied into AutoCAD. Clones just don't work. As for other areas of work they might. However I have yet to use a clone that gives me a 100% AutoCAD "feel". There are some good ones out there that are very capable CAD programs but they are not AutoCAD. I have never liked AutoDesk's pricing but that is their right to charge what they want. People are free to use something else and some might. Quote
Dadgad Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 BeerCAD. Now there's a thought. Draft beer! Sometimes I just crack myself up. Touche! Despite my lingering suspicions, I don't think a BOT would have come up with that. You may prove to be human, yet! Quote
