Hello all,

I know that multibody is not available for sheetmetal environment,and also i saw the

JD example (multipart master+derived parts by cutting the master and finally assemble /weldment).

Someone knows different methods to work with a part (tipically sheet metal covers

for engines/ equipement) made of several sheet metal parts of different thickness assembled by both welding and or with bolts? :unsure:

If you're assembling multiple parts, you should probably be doing it in an assembly, not a part. Make your individual pieces in the sheet metal environment, then put them together in weldments / assemblies as needed.

 

You shouldn't be building assemblies as multibody solids anyway.

I make extensive use of multiibody solids to create assemblies that I then push out to individual parts and assembly file on the Manage tab.

Thank you Bishop and JD,

Sorry to bother you again but my problem is:

Tipical the engine cover is made with sheet metal parts,i would like:) to control the final assembly in "one touch" like multibody do with standar parts,

I found a workaround in the web but it works only if the assembly is made by one sheet metal and all other parts are standards and also it seem to me time consuming.

Topdown design can be used, but since in our company the associativity between the parts is seen as bad practice when i make a modification on one part i have to check others

one by one for modification and mating in the final assembly.

Another way is the one illustrated by JD (master derived by "cutting" the different parts"); i see also someone use to model the master as a surface and than the derived parts are made by thickening the different portion of the master surface (master is "dressed" with sheet metal plates).

The last way seems to me a good way also because often the different parts are in different thickness.

Is there other methods i do not know to work with sheet metal ?

You know what I meant, JD. You're not doing bolts and welds and such in your part file. You're creating the part(s) in the part file, and then moving things into an assembly.
