genmech Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Ladies and Gentlemen, Recently i made a post asking about Large format printer. Well this time the question is if you actully think investing in a printer is a sound decision. We would probley only do one to 2 prints every other week. we would have a need to make 2 400 page projects 2 times a year. Quote
ReMark Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I would buy the plotter. Use the services of a reprographics company for the once-in-a-blue-moon type jobs. Quote
genmech Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 ReMark you are always on the Ball when it comes to Answering my questions. Thanks good sir! Quote
ReMark Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Well it is only one man's opinion. I wouldn't base your decision on just my response. Have you done any kind of cost analysis comparing the two options? Quote
genmech Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 Trying to but can't find a good lead on how many sheets i can get out of ink cartridges. right now i am leaning towards the HP T120. i can estimate paper usage by inches but i can't find Pages for Ink anywhere! Quote
ReMark Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 That would be difficult to determine because your sheet size will vary won't it? Another factor will be if you are plotting strictly black/white or color or a combination of the two. Quote
f700es Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I agree, after 2 years you would probably recoup the plotter investment. Again, depending on your plot needs. Quote
genmech Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 Yeah thats what i told my boss. i can figure out how many sheets off a roll but not how much ink will go on that sheet. Guess i'll just try to guesstimate. Quote
ReMark Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I see no way of determining how much ink will be used per plotted drawing. It's not like you are plotting the same drawing over and over and over again. Quote
Handiman Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I also recommend buying the plotter. My boss pulled the trigger after we spent +$700.00 for one job. 4 colors, 9 pages, 8 sets on Arch D. They charge by paper size, # of colors, # of sheets. Then there is your time and the billing dept. time. Quicker you purchase it the quicker it has payed for itself. About your ink useage, we have a HP 800 series and the black ink is changed about every other month and we print daily and our jobs are 4-20 sheets. Our Cyan, Yellow and Mangenta inks are more than 1 year old. Good Luck. Quote
