KrashVegas Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Hey Everyone, needed a little help to see if I'm doing something wrong with extruding regions to form 3d Solids here. Please take a look at the attached drawing and let me know! Basically The drawing problem I'm working on has the shown angle bracket at 3.00 units wide, and 2.50 units tall. The "remnants" of this original outline still show after I used subobject editing and the 'face' filters to extend the dimensions to 3.50, and 2.75, respectively. To create the angle bracket (and base piece) I just drew the outlines with the LINE command in 2D, drew the circles and slot shapes, used REGION, then SUBTRACT to hollow out holes and the slot, then of course extruded (confirming it was in solid mode) to a thickness of .25 units. I then used UNION to join the two pieces. Thanks in advance for your help! P11_03.dwg Quote
tzframpton Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Looks fine to me. What's the problem?I don't think there's a problem, I think the O.P. just wants confirmation that what he/she has done is correct. And I shall agree with ReMark, what you've done looks fine to me. More than one way to skin a cat when it comes to 3D Modeling in AutoCAD. Quote
KrashVegas Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 Ok, maybe hard to see the outline there, but as I continue editing the bracket, you can see more clearly that the base 'region' part does not change shape with the rest of the solid model. You can also see the slot on the angle segment has an outline of where the shape used to be. So, I'm definitely doing something wrong, since they are separate components and they shouldn't be. The two bottom base 'feet' were modified, and there is still a flat area (region without the solid model) underneath from where the original size outline was. Please see updated attached file. Since the file is the same same name, I re-uploaded, and couldn't figure out how to delete old files in the Upload Manager. Can anyone help with this also? I hope this one was right that I attached, basing it on the file size differences. P11_03.dwg Quote
ReMark Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 The base region is your original geometry. Whether or not this is retained is controlled by the setting of the DELOBJ system variable. Changes to the actual 3D model will not be reflected in the original geometry (i.e. - will not be updated). Does that answer your question? Quote
KrashVegas Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 Yes! I figured it was something like that, a system variable or sequence I wasn't using correctly. Thank you very much. I see a chart in my textbook that has an explanation of all the different DELOBJ system variable settings now from 0 - 3, and -1 - -3. I read it going through the chapter, but didn't realize the importance of it until now. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction ReMark. Quote
tzframpton Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Ah, I did notice the linework but I guess to my experienced eyes, it doesn't take away from the 3D Model being "wrong" so I didn't even consider it. Good catch ReMark. Quote
