lucas1 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I was given a drawing and asked to scale it down. Once I did everything scaled as it should except for the dimensions. The dimensions did not change. What gives? Quote
Dadgad Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Are the dimensions associative, or might their values be overridden in the properties? When you say they did not change, are you referring to their size, location or values? Can you post a small snippet of this drawing so that we can take a look at it? Quote
lucas1 Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 I cannot post anything because I do not have access to it right now. I can tell you that the values remained the same and the dimensions where still attached to the drawing. It was the size of the dimensions that didn't change. I was scaling the drawing to fit an 11"x17" plot and everything scaled down except the dims. Thank you for responding, I appreciate any help!! Quote

Presumably you were scaling the drawing because it was not drawn full size, 1:1 in modelspace. Everything in modelspace SHOULD be full scale, having no relationship whatsoever to the size of a sheet of paper. If you were trying to scale it in modelspace to fit your sheet, then it sounds like you should be scaling it through a VIEWPORT in your layout space, which is the correct way to get it to display properly on your sheet. Are the dimensions in Paperspace or Modelspace? Quote
PotGuy Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 You can use 'dimscale' then use 'dim' 'all' (highlight the dims) . Change the dimscale depending on your viewport's scale. This is assuming you did Model space work as 1:1 and that the dims are also in Model space. Remember that all CAD work regarding a model is done 1:1 and that all dimensions must also be done in Model space. In Paper space you can then sort out the scaling of each object so that it will fit. Set all vewports (mview) under 'defpoints' (in layers tab) so they will not plot and that you can sort the scale of the viewport in the proeprties tab. Where needed, you can overlap the edges of a viewport because their edges won't show when under 'defpoints', but in the interest of keeping things clear while working in paperspace try to refrain from doing this. There are many forum members. of whom I am one, who do ALL of their dimensions and annotation in paperspace. That is not meant to imply that doing them in modelspace is incorrect, merely that their is more than one way to skin the proverbial virtual cad. I would suggest putting your viewports on their own nonprinting layer (mine is called MVIEW), rather than cluttering up your defpoints layer, for no better reason than it was already there and set as nonprinting. I don't recommend that new users place anything on the Defpoints layer. Can lead to unexpected problems. Quote

ReMark Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 The topic has been covered many times. See Similar Threads below or do a search on the word "Defpoints". Quote
SLW210 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 You need to adjust the DIMSCALE in the dimension style to match your changes. Quote
