Successful User Registration

On average we get over 1000 new registrations every month but a large proportion of those registrations fail. Please read this post to ensure that your registration is successful.

The main reason you may want to register with the forum is to post a message. Only registered users (members) can post messages. You will also have access to the community forums that are hidden from guest users.

The most common reason for registration failure is the use of an incorrect or fictitious email address or the return of validation emails by anti-spam software. It is only possible to register on this forum if you use a valid email address. This is a security measure and it protects our forum from malicious use.

The forum uses a method of email validation to complete the registration process. When you complete the registration form, the forum will send an email message to the email address given. The email contains a special link and your Username and Password. At this stage, your registration is made but you cannot post a message until your registration has been validated. In order to validate your registration, you must follow the link in the email message. This process proves that the email address you gave is accurate and belongs to you. If your email address has not been verified within 7 days of your registration, your account may be removed.

In addition and in an attempt to curb spam on this forum, you should not use an email address from the following list of mail services. We receive a lot of spam from people using these mail services and any user registrations with email addresses from these domains will be deleted without warning:

cashette.com

mail.ru

list.ru

ukr.net

yandex.ru

inbox.ru

gawab.com

chongsoft.org

126.com

ppz.pl

tlen.pl

Currently we are also refusing registrations using the following domains:

ymail.com

e-mail.com

e-mail.org

163.com

This is a temporary measure and may be reviewed in the future.

Choosing a Username

Choose a username that is easily memorable and reasonably short. Usernames can be up to 20 characters long but something much shorter than this is better. Do not use your email address as your username. The forum is regularly indexed by search engines and pretty soon, you'll find more spam arriving in your mailbox.

This forum screens all usernames and checks them against a database of usernames used by known spammers. If you find that you are identified as a spammer during registration, it means that your preferred name is already in use by a known spammer. Simply try a different username to successfully complete your registration.

If you see the message above during registration, it means that a known spammer is currently using the name you have chosen and it would be unwise for you to use the same name yourself. You are not being accused of being a spammer. Simply choose a different username for your own protection. You can check whether your username is currently in use by a known spammer using the search tool at Stop Forum Spam before registering.

Logging in

Once your registration has been validated, you can login to the forum using the Username and Password you gave when you registered and which is confirmed in the validation email.

When you have logged in, you will see your Username displayed on the navigation bar at the top of each page. You can now post a new topic or contribute to an existing topic. You are a member of the forum!

In order to keep the forum lean, failed registrations are pruned from the database. You have one month to validate your registration. After that time, your registration will be removed from the system. You have 3 months to login for the first time after validation. After that time, your membership will be removed from the system. In both cases you will be sent an email informing you of this and providing a link that you may use to register again.

Tips to ensure trouble-free registration

Double-check that the email address you typed is correct.

Make sure your anti-spam filter allows the validation email to reach your mailbox.

Validate your registration as soon as you can after registration. Non-validated registrations may be deleted after a week.

Test your login details as soon as you can after validation.

Do not use your email address as your username.

Choose a different username if your preferred username is flagged up as being in use by a known spammer.
