I'm a beginner and I'm using autocad 2002. It seems like the perspective view is only for presentation since I can't edit my drawing while in perspective. Am I wrong? When do you experts use it?

You are correct, it is used for presentation to give a more realistic appearance of the model rather than an isometric view (perspective providing a vanishing point). You can not edit in perspective.
