Default error: "MUST re_cover" text on a drawing

Hi. We are facing problem with some of our drawings.
When we open drawing and save it, all the contents of the drawing are deleted, automatically the drawing will leave a text MUST re_cover only. We notice also on the same folder location of the drawing a file acad.vlx is appearing.
Anybody there who has the idea about what causing this.

Did you happen to receive drawing files from a foreign client?

We normally receiving drawings from outside, i guess that is the reason why we are having drawing corrupction.

Thanks for the link regarding the "acad.vlx" file. Now i know it's
a virus that is spreading. I'll try the procedures to fix the problem.

Thanks for the info.

You should not cleanup the computers from the virus before you use the virus itself to try to recover your dwg drawings.

I hope you still have some acad.vlx file for you to use.

For details on how to use the virus for recovery, visit my article here:

I would follow AutoDesk's recommended advice.

1) AutoDesk's advice on that page won't help you recover your file. They can't tell you to use the virus to recover your file, although they may already know that it is possible to recover the file like the way I presented.

2) There is no risk in attempting the recovery as I presented if you follow all precautions.

3) There is nothing wrong with AutoDesk's advice. Actually in my article I included it but told the readers to recover their files first, then cleanup their computers from the virus using AutoDesk's code and by deleting all the remaining acad.vlx files. That is all.

What other file types have you recovered using a computer virus that attacks files?

None, but what is your point? Usually viruses don't give you a way to recover your data, but those who made this particular virus seem that they wanted to corrupt AutoCAD files for the fun of it, but at the same time wanted to give you a way to recover it.

If you have ever experienced this virus you would notice that it converts the file and it takes time for it to do it for a Megabytes dwg file. The recovery process requires a similar conversion but reversely. You can imagine it as something similar to file encryption, if a file is encrypted you can't read it if you don't have the decryption key. When I say "use the virus to recover the file" it is similar to saying use the decryption key to decrypt the file.

Keep in mind that we called it a virus, it is indeed a virus but the virus creators just wanted it to behave like that.

Amer

And how is it that you come by this knowledge?

What is your background?

What first brought you here to CADTutor?
