I was trying to replace the character "?" with "144" using Autocad 2009. The command replaced every character in the string with "144". Has anyone seen this or does anyone have a solution?

While looking for something else, I found your answer, and only three and a half years late.

Use the back quote (lower case tilde) to avoid evaluating the question mark as a wild card. That is, search for `? instead of ?.
