qball Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 My office uses two text types that may be from pre-acad2000 era, I'm not too sure actually where they come from. So if there's a lot of text the message at the bottom left of the tool bar says "Please wait... formatting text". It can sometimes take quite a while (longer it seems the tighter the deadline). The text styles are archisel.shx and archquik.shx. I searched and read this thread http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=29101&highlight=please+wait+formatting+text the solution there was to go to .shx fonts. Which is what I have. Is it normal to have to wait for text to load like that? Any other thoughts or suggestions? Quote
ReMark Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I don't recognize either of those fonts (in that's what they are) as originating from early AutoCAD (pre-Acad2k). Could they be shape files? Since you are having a problem with using them (wait times for formatting) why haven't you switched to something else? Quote
qball Posted November 19, 2009 Author Posted November 19, 2009 here's what the text files look like. But you are probably right, may be time to find something else that works better. text styles.dwg Quote
ReMark Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I don't know what you have but I was able to find, download and put a font called Archchisel.shx in my AutoCAD 2009 fonts folder. Using the Style command I created a new style I named Chisel. I enabled Use Big Font and where it says Big Font I selected Bigfont.shx. I set this style to Current then clicked on the Apply button. Back in my drawing I used the Multiline Text option and as soon as I started typing my two lines of text it immediately appeared on the screen. When did your problem first occur? Has working with these two fonts always been this frustrating? Quote
qball Posted November 19, 2009 Author Posted November 19, 2009 I may have accidentally mislead you. I should have mentioned it's a 2.5MB file, which is big for the type of work I normally do. I thought that maybe the formatting text was proportional to the size of the file. I switched all the textstyles to txt.shx. It still takes a long time to regenerate the viewports on a layout. But since it says "please wait..." I thought it may help to have a different text style. By erasing much of the content, thus reducing file size, the regen of the viewports are much faster. It could just be the file size. Like I say, it's rare for me to be on a file this big, so I'll probably just suck it up for this project. Quote
ReMark Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I've never seen a message re: formatting text even when printing from a 16MB and a 32MB file. Whatever is happening doesn't seem right. Oh well, if you can live with it so can I. Cheers mate. Quote
