Cleaning up the file
SLW210 replied to Discus84's topic in AutoCAD 2D Drafting, Object Properties & Interface
Are you using AutoCAD 2010? Along with previous suggestions and to add, you can do a lot of cleaning with the WBLOCK @ReMark, best method for true cleaning is to WBLOCK just the selected/visible objects you need, that way some of the things mentioned by @CyberAngel are hopefully not carried to the new drawing. I always start with -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD to clean up objects left by verticals, etc. - Today

HARD ORTHO
CyberAngel replied to Discus84's topic in AutoCAD 2D Drafting, Object Properties & Interface
Can you be more specific about when and how this issue arises? Does it always happen while using relative coordinates? -
Cleaning up the file
CyberAngel replied to Discus84's topic in AutoCAD 2D Drafting, Object Properties & Interface
The worst waste of storage I've seen is inserting another drawing as a block (either as copy&paste or xref), using it for whatever, then freezing the layer it's on. Sometimes they'll insert it once, forget it's there, and explode the second copy, so it's there twice. Or three times or more. The usual tools don't work on these duplicates. There are ways to find them, but most are clunky. For instance, thaw all the layers. See if anything looks suspicious. Select areas of the screen to see if there are outrageous numbers of objects. Another strategy is to look through your blocks. One may have an odd name or a thumbnail that looks like a plan. Look through your layers for groups that don't belong. Go through your layouts. Needless to say, don't save the drawing while you're tracking down the problem. Once you do find it, quit the file, reload it, fix it, and then save. -
Logic Issue: CENTERLINE Command Redefined with Layer Change
Clint replied to Clint's topic in AutoLISP, Visual LISP & DCL
Oh yes, I was not aware of a BricsCAD-flavored Forum here and must use it (along with a copy of AutoCAD LT 2026 granted exclusively for development purposes to redefine inherited dynamic blocks) I understand that the patented dynamic block functionality is set to expire in 2027 here in the USA. The rest of the world now enjoys it in BricsCAD as I understand it. -

Also note that in AutoCAD 2026, you can set the CENTERLINE/CENTERMARK layer without needing third-party applications: https://help.autodesk.com/view/ACD/2026/ENU/?guid=GUID-F517D9EC-372A-4BE2-9E29-824B2D550FF0 -
Logic Issue: CENTERLINE Command Redefined with Layer Change
Lee Mac replied to Clint's topic in AutoLISP, Visual LISP & DCL
Ok, just be aware that, by default, the CENTERLINE command already creates a line with linetype CENTER2 rather than ByLayer. -
Logic Issue: CENTERLINE Command Redefined with Layer Change
Clint replied to Clint's topic in AutoLISP, Visual LISP & DCL
Yes indeed, Lee. Thanks! I will use a "Center2" linetype instead of "Continuous" according to our standard practices. Clint -
Logic Issue: CENTERLINE Command Redefined with Layer Change
Lee Mac replied to Clint's topic in AutoLISP, Visual LISP & DCL
You can just use the following entry in the layer list to achieve the result you require: ("CENTERLINE" "CENTERLINE" "" 7 "Continuous" -3 1 nil ) -
Logic Issue: CENTERLINE Command Redefined with Layer Change
Clint replied to Clint's topic in AutoLISP, Visual LISP & DCL
Ah, I should have known... Yes sir, Lee. I have downloaded the Layer Director and will set it up to skip the my beginner trials and tribulations in this case as I am in a time crunch. I am responsible for pushing out a departmental CAD customization package where the custom file updating program was developed by another. I understand that you are not taking on new projects. Thanks for chiming in! Clint -

mhupp - I look forward to learning from your examples (as avoiding catastrophes like infinite loops are really good things and things within our control in life.) Thanks, Clint -

Note that you can use my Layer Director to preset & reset a layer (including layer creation) for both standard and custom commands: https://lee-mac.com/layerdirector.html -
Logic Issue: CENTERLINE Command Redefined with Layer Change
mhupp replied to Clint's topic in AutoLISP, Visual LISP & DCL
The " . " is the only thing stopping your lisp from running the first 25 lines of your code in an infinite loop. If you gave that lisp to someone them typing centerline in the command prompt would run your code not the default centerline command. as it is "overwritten" I'll post some examples tonight. but off the top of my head I created shortcuts to commands like ;;----------------------------------------------------------------------------;; ;; Create Cricle from picking 3 Points (defun C:C3P () (command "._CIRCLE" "_3P")) -
Cleaning up the file
ReMark replied to Discus84's topic in AutoCAD 2D Drafting, Object Properties & Interface
One I can think of is to WBLOCK the entire drawing out to a new file name (temporarily) then compare the file sizes. -
Hi, Even though I mostly draw rectangular shapes and have ortho on , still I can pull sideways Sometimes minute lateral move with mouse will even skew lines while using @ with coordinates (relative input) Is there a way to set the ortho for good i.e prevent any lines or shapes from being skewed. Thanks!

Hi, After editing the shell comamands with aliasedit I only get a blank window that popups and immediately dissapears. Notepad works as expected. I would like to run a different program. -
Hi, I'm using PURGE and OVERKILL to clean up. Any other options?

Line scaling settings

I set it to and now they scale properly, which is opposite of what should be? Anyways it works, thanks! -
Confused by scale issue when set to 1:1_1
Bob658 replied to Bob658's topic in AutoCAD 2D Drafting, Object Properties & Interface
It's not a duplicate scale. As far as I'm aware 1:1_1 is a standard scale and generally that's the only one I use. -

The shortcut for From is _fro. You can use fro as well, but that seems to disable all the other snaps you have. Here's a page with a list of all the snap shortcuts. -
Confused by scale issue when set to 1:1_1
CyberAngel replied to Bob658's topic in AutoCAD 2D Drafting, Object Properties & Interface
How is "1:1_1" different from "1:1"? Is it possible there's a duplicate scale? -

Confused by scale issue when set to 1:1_1
Bob658 posted a topic in AutoCAD 2D Drafting, Object Properties & Interface
I have two different models. both have the units set to metres and both have the scale set to 1:1_1. However when the 'Edit Drawing Scales' when you select the 1:1_1 it states at the bottom that '1 paper unit = 1 drawing unit' but in the other model ''1 paper unit = 0.001 drawing unit'. As you can't edit this I'm not sure how it happened. Can anybody shed any light on this.? -
Logic Issue: CENTERLINE Command Redefined with Layer Change
Clint replied to Clint's topic in AutoLISP, Visual LISP & DCL
mhupp, Your suggestion and generous code submission are both very well received: Thank you! I will rework the "robot" program code to include your superior code lines. Questions Outside of the important warning applied to LISP programming and variables, Can you or others give an example(s) of instances of how a programmer/customizer can modify default commands? Would this action be limited to creating macro code lines to assign to custom buttons? Future After stalling out, I am now at a DWG-based design environment and will resume my LISP programming studies. I was recently encouraged by understanding how to use the built-in IDE. P.S.: My thanks go out to the excellent developer and programmed systems just developed from a longtime fellow member of other forums and entrepreneur running https://cadprograms.ca/ Thanks, Clint -

This works as expected, thanks! Is there a keyboard shortcut to use the "from" feature? Thanks !
