Hello, I’m new with this company that I work for and even though we have AutoCad 2008 we don't really have any templates.

There is one CAD guy in our head office that has a standard template but he has it in a drawing and uses it in Model space (he doesn't believe in Paper space). He also has 4 different versions of the same template to use 4 different scales, which I was surprised to say the least.

I would like to setup the template in paper space to make our drawings a little more professional and easier to manage but I am not sure how.

Are there any tutorials or basic step by step guides in setting up template?

Thanks for the help

Just insert the pre-existing borders in paperspace and set up a viewport within the drawing area. Save each file as a .dwt.

There are a lot of people that don't use paperspace, depending on what field they work in.

Four scales...four templates. Yep, I've heard of that approach.

What field are you working in? Mechanical, architectural, structural, civil, other?

It exists, I've seen it!

Im in mechanical engineering and all my drafting will be mechanical jobs.

I've worked with AutoCad before but the templates were always setup. I've never needed to build it from scratch which is where I'm finding it a challenge.

Cat,

I want to know how to set it up so the template disappears from model space. How exactly can I do that? Right now I save the template as A4.dwt but every time I open A4.dwt it opens as Drawing1.dwg and the template is still in model space.

Hi Bill,

Open your original template that you created. In model space, copy with basepoint. Use 0,0 as the basepoint, then select the border. Switch to paperspace and paste at 0,0. Then just delete the border in model space and save the template. You should be good to go.

Attached in the link below is a .zip containing a set of metric border templates in .dwt format.

A0, A1, A2, & A3

There is also a .dwg that explains a quick way to modify them with your own logo etc.

I have done them as rev.2000 files so that most people will be able to use them.

Just unzip them into a suitable folder (call it TEMPLATES perhaps) then

Use the 'NEW - USE A TEMPLATE' command to load one into your autocad session as the base for a new drawing.

They have lots of layers, dimension styles, scales, etc included.

The larger sheet sizes have parts list and tolerance blocks.

Anybody is FREE to download them, use them, alter them, add your logo, just do what you want with them.

That's very generous of you nukecad. I'm sure a lot of CAD users working in metric will find them most useful. Thanks.
