djbourno Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I have a Dell Precision 380 with 1GB RAM and a Pentium D3 Ghz processor. AutoCAD 2009 (SP1) Windows XP (SP2) And when I come to save a file the program hangs for several minutes but will eventually save. While hanging it uses a large amount of memory and around 50% of the CPU. Is there a solution ie a tweak or change in autocad, or is it a upgrade my hardware issue? (RAM?) Quote
GhostRider Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I'm sure it depends on how large the files are, and are there X-ref's etc in the drawings, but more Ram is always better. does it do it with a blank file ? Just a suggestion check you support paths, for everything not just save location and make sure they are all valid locatons, if you imported a profile or something they could be directed to non-existant locations.. ReMark Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Your computer is like an anaconda that's swallowed a pig. There's a bottleneck in there somewhere. Add another 1GB of RAM. RAM is like money...you can never have too much (well almost). By the way, how much free space is on the hard drive? When was the last time the hard drive was defragged? Quote
Tankman Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Might also "purge" the document before saving. Does this sound right gentlemen? Quote
rkent Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Try installing the Open/Save hot fix available through autodesk. Also, are you saving to your harddrive or to a server? If a server, what software is used for the server. Is the computer a laptop? Sorry I don't have the Dell model numbers memorized. Quote
nocturne00 Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Check also your scalelists, it may be bloated. -scalelistedit>Reset>yes Quote
myself Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 yeah, scalelists are really annoying, i would tell you to try to reset them before save or even work, it can take a long time juts simply doing a copy past sometimes because of that. Quote
