gman1979 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Hi Guy's, I'm plotting a drawing to PDF, have done so many times before. From a set of drawings I have converted one keeps producing the same issue. When plotting to PDF some of the annotation is plotting as if the line weight is too heavy, making the text unreadable. I have checked all the layers concerned and the three layers i use for text are all set to a line weight of '0' I have also checked the text to ensure that they are all on these layers. All of the other drawings within this set have plotted to PDF without issue. All text has been added to the drawing in model space. Plot preview doesn't display this issue, plotting via the plotter doesn’t produce a hard copy with this issue and viewing the drawing with line weights display on doesn't display this issue. Any Ideas? P.s. I have not touched the pen weights, only line weights per layer within the layer manager. Using Windows XP Professional AutoCAD 2007 Thanks in advance Guy's G Quote
JBullseye74 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Thats a weird one mate.... does it still do it if you change the text style? What do you use for your pdf's? I use Cutepdf maybe try and download that and see if the same things happens. Quote
gman1979 Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 It get's weirder, i added the mtext items again in the same layer as the ones i was having the issue with and they were fine, the style was identical, all the properties also, i even compiled a side by side comparison of the illegible one with the new 'normal' one. just bugs me not knowing why it happened and how to fix it if it happens again. I plot to PDF straight from AutoCAD, never used a 3rd party program to do it before. Quote
JBullseye74 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Fair do's... im just used to using 3rd party programs to print pdf's as you couldn;t do it straight from autocad before 2007 me thinks! around then anyway. I must admit i do like the way you can freeze off the layers still when you pdf straight from acad. sorry i couldn't be of more help must ust one of those quirky things Quote
stevesx Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I have the exact same problem using autocad LT 2008 - preview looks fine, but when exported to pdf some of the text lines appear thicker - plots out fine on copiers and plotters. Do any of you know if this issue got resolved? Quote
CJJ Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I'm also having some problems when plotting to a PDF. The text comes out illegible and arcs/circles aren't round. Everything looks a little pixelated. The plot preview won't let me zoom in but so far, when normally I can zoom in much further. I'm wondering if the problem lies in the resolution of the plot or something like that. We use eDoc PDF (cheaper than Adobe) and it usually looks fine. the PC3 file is hosted on our network server, and typically it looks OK. I've plotted the same drawing using the same plotter from a different computer, and everything looks great. When I do a plot of this drawing with our large format plotter, i can zoom all the way in and everything looks fine, but the same drawing with the same plot settings (except using the PDF not the plotter) comes out illegible as a PDF. I've upped the DPI to 300 (default was much less, but it works on other plotters and other computers) and it didn't seem to have any effect. I'm wondering if this install of AutoCAD has settings about output resolution or something that aren't visible on the plot dialogue box. Does anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Any clues where I should start looking? Quote
Bogbadbob658 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I've always had the problem of the text. The problem appears to be with truetype fonts. It appears that it adds the line width onto the edge of the text. I don't have the same problem with AutoCAD fonts. I use an old pdf programme called '5D pdf' which is good or if you are looking for a free one try 'pdf995' Quote
CJJ Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I don't think PDF995 is free. I'm not sure about this, but in the past it cost $9.95 and only had a free trial version, which left watermarks on your output. Quote
nukecad Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I'm with bullseye (and quite a few other members here) on this one; never had any problems with cutepdf. http://www.cutepdf.com/products/cutepdf/Writer.asp some others swear by primopdf, but I have never tried it myself because cutepdf does what I need. http://www.primopdf.com/index.aspx Oh, BTW- they are both free Quote
Bogbadbob658 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I just checked their web site and it's free if you don't mid having a sponsers page pop when you print to pdf. I use it at home and it works fine. Quote
