rusty82 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Apologise if this is the wrong forum, on AutoCAD 2004 LT its possible to group a set of lines by selecting them, right click then clicking on group so that in effect those can be moved with ease. Yet full fat 2006 hasnt got this option.... or least cant see it. Can one point me in the right direction on 2006 to how this function can be used and switched off at times please? Many thanks Quote
NBC Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 use the GROUP command. once you have some groups saved within your drawing, you can toggle the display of them by holding down CTRL SHIFT and A keys Quote
rusty82 Posted February 13, 2008 Author Posted February 13, 2008 thats the long route surely? dont want to creat blocks though just want the odd selection here or there when needed. its a command rarely use but if need to move say a wall, hatching and notes then it becomes handy. thanks though. NBC Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 did i mention anywhere in my post about blocks ? read again please rusty. you asked how to go about creating groups, so that is what i answered Quote
rusty82 Posted February 13, 2008 Author Posted February 13, 2008 the group option you mentioned sounded like creating blocks. sorry! Quote
SLW210 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 You can go into the CUI and add the GROUP command to your Right-Click menu. Tools>Customize>Interface or _CUI on the command line. In the "Customizations in All CUI Files" section (upper left) select the + sign beside "Shortcut Menus" then select the + beside "Edit Menu" (if you want it to show up after selecting Objects) or "Default Menu" (if you want to show up before selection). Go to the "Command List" section (lower left) and scroll to the "Select Group" command and drag it to the appropriate section in the upper left (or Right-Click and select "Copy" and "Paste" into the shortcut menu). spaceman S Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 i think what rusty 82 is asking is whether or not there is a quick way to group things as you would find in sketchup (right click and select group)...grouping in autocad requires so many steps, plus naming it, that it may as well be a block... does anyone know whatever happenned to the command quickgroup? i appeared probably in 2000-2002 or so, an then disappeared completely...maybe it was an express tool? it never ceases to amaze me how difficult autodesk can make it to do simple easy things, unless you're a programmer, whereas sketchup could probably turn rocket science into child's play...
