Straight Blocks & Attributes

Hi there. Long time no see!

Changed jobs, but thats another story.......:P

This drawing has come into the office. Workin with AutoCAD 2008.

Its got blocks of the house types in it.

Each block has three attributes.

One for the house type name.

One for the floor level and the other one is the site plot number.

And its all done in meters.

We work in millimeters.

No probs there....x 1000. etc.

When I copy clip a block into another clean fresh drawing, I find that the attributes are orbiting pluto offside in hyperspace instead of within the house walls on the plan.

If I explode the block the tabs appear back inside the boundary of the house walls but of course they've lost their values.

Aaaaaaaaaarrrghhhaaaaghrrgggggrrr!:x

Wot gives huh?

Why do the values appear next door and not where they should be?

I really must get back into the chat room again with you guys an' gals. A lot has happened.:)

my first guess is that the block has been redefined within its source drawing but hasn't been ATTSYNCed.

Try ATTSYNC and if the attributes on all existing blocks fly away you can give me two brownie points.

Obviously don't save it if the attributes do move.

dbroada !

You are a genius!:D

I throw sugar at your image!

So is everyone else in the office!

Why do the attributes go off side like that?

What is it that goes off sync?

What is it they are syncing too?

It never happened to me before.

Is it because the cad guy ( or gal! ) set sumfink up inncorrectly in the original drawing or what? Or is just *@#~*#* AutoCAD !

Thanks again.

Steve

PS. Its pumping rain here in Norn Iron. Camping weather its not! LOL

ATTSYNC re-syns the attributes in existing blocks to their newly defined locations, adding or deleting as necessary.

one way it happens is when people start pulling attributes away from their defined location and then stat copying rather than inserting new blocks. If you now insert the block it still has the old refernece.

another way is if you redefine the block after moving attributes (either explode|redefine, or use BEDIT or REFEDIT) but don't ATTSYNC/BATTMAN to update existing blocks all future insertions will be of the newly defined locations but older ones won't.

I am sure there are other ways to get in this state but those are the 2 that I encounter most.

The really messy one is where somebody redefines a block without attributes. All existing blocks will have attributes but a WBLOCK won't. That one comes up here quite a bit.

And the weather in SE England is quite nice but there was no cricket earlier up in the NE. Haven't checked recently. And its got one week 'till the camper van comes out for its first trip of the year.

Many thanks dbroada.

Right enough!

What you say makes sense!

My first reaction is to shoot the original drafter.

But then, they might not know what they're doing in this instance.

And then, there's a lot I dont know either! LOL

Someone might have their sights on me!

Duck!

Aaaargh! No!

LOL

Oh! I've gotta get back in here.

It's been hecktic recently.

My eldest daughter gets married this FRIDAY!

WAHOOO!
