Can't see any inserted blocks - WHY?!!!?

A colleague has MEP 2008 installed but is using the acadiso.dwt and the Autocad 2008 profile.

He inserts a block from an external file (also made using MEP 2008 in vanilla Autocad mode; also using acadiso.dwt).

The block doesn't display nor can you select it by any means other than 'qselect'-ing block ref; name.

Once selected if you try and open it in the block editor the screen still shows nothing.

Oh, it won't bring it in as an xref either. The block in question is a title block with attributes but no dynamic behaviour. However, the command doesn't work with any blocks.

Restarting the PC has not helped. He tells me this problem occasionally occurs and re-starting his PC usually solves it.

Anyone know what is going on?

cheers

Does it matter what Layer you insert the block on? Is the layer On/Thawed/Unlocked?

What layers is the block created on? Is it just one block? Can you upload it here so we can take a look at it?

maybe you have a block already defined with the same name?

I once did the following when i had a similar problem: copied the block, and after it showed nothing, I opened it in block editor (still showed nothing), and then I opened the original block that is located in the original drawing (also in block editor) selected all the components and copy-pasted them into the other drawing's block editor window which didn't display anything before. Saved the block and was done.

You can give it a shot, see if it helps!

There is another way to 'trick' the system if this is the case. What you do is use the RENAME command and rename the Block to another name. This will 'get it out of the way' for the insertion of another block with the same name.

As for the cause, this is only one of many possibilities. It could be the Layers (as previously pointed out) or a poorly located origin for the Block... Many a time I've seen a bad origin throw something out to China somewhere (a good analogy unless you're already in China). A Zoom Extents may show a couple of dots one of which keeps changing colour - that's usually the main part of your drawing...

Then there's the Units side of things - Inserting it in at the wrong scale... There's still a stack of others too, but you'll need to play Sherlock Holmes to find out your specific cause... Otherwise you can put up your block and the drawing and one of us can play Watson's role (Elementary my dear Watson)...

I will test all ways when the lightening strikes again and let you know!
