Guest Dr.Syn Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 In AutoCad 2004 can you extend a 3D face to another surface which is not flat. Imagine 2 pipes intersecting, you would only want the branch pipe end to be the same profile as of the inner or outer dia. of the main. Quote
CADTutor Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Sadly, you cannot do this. 3DFaces are only 3 or 4-sided figures, they cannot contain curved edges. You will have more luck using Regions because you can use boolean operations on them and they can be very complex. Regoins may be defined by any combination of line, arc and spline. Even Regions cannot be extended to meet another region but since you can subtract parts of them, they can be trimmed (sort of) but not using the Trim command. I'm not sure if any of that helps Quote
fuccaro Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Dr.Syn Working with surfaces you have only few options. Use solids and you have boolean operations and the SOLIDEDIT command. Quote
Guest Dr.Syn Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Thanks Guys, I was actually thinking of solids. I could do the Subtract, but the solid surface I want to extrude to is not a regular shape and it means a lot of extra work to get the "mould" to subtract. Just goes to show how important it is to plan your operations before you start. Quote
MichaelBrenden Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Is there a command to trim a simple surface? Simple surface would be what appears as a "quarter round" representing the bend radius of the material on a metal bracket. Bracket must be made shorter. Exploding the 3D object (which was composed old-school way of combining regions and swept curved surfaces) reveals regions (for flat surfaces) and the quarter-round surfaces. Easy to modify size of regions. Is there a way to trim (and/or extend) the length of the surface? TIA Quote
