BOB'27T Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 I am starting a new project which has standard AutoCad points. The points are just coming up as "points" when I select them. The elevation & description are listed as a block reference. They are basically as 2 separate entities, even though they really aren't. I cannot convert them into Civil 3D. I need help, as my Boss is losing his patience, because nobody in the office can figure it out! Quote

BOB'27T Posted March 6, 2008 Author Posted March 6, 2008 I did that when I first started the drawing. It comes up with the prompt for a point description and I entered "EX" for existing. It only allows me to enter one at a time. I tried windowing all the points and the same thing happened. The surveyor is supposed to send a txt file, but I wanted to figure it out sooner. They are dragging their feet! Quote
lpseifert Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 It may be possible to use Eattext to extract the blocks' data (N,E,Z,D) to a .csv file, then use the .csv to import the points int C3D. Quote

Go to points creation and set the prompt for description to automatic and default description to EX. This should allow you to do them all at once. Quote

I tried that but could not get it to work until I selected 'Convert Autocad Points' from the drop down on the far left of the toolbar. I don't think you can close the toolbar and pick convert from the menu pull down; it loses the settings... ya learn something new everyday. Thanks Rusty. Quote
BOB'27T Posted March 6, 2008 Author Posted March 6, 2008 Thanks Guys! I will give those a try! In the meantime I sent Guido out to get the text file also! Quote
Charles Roberts Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Maybe what you are seeing is "POINT" blocks created by software such as SoftDesk to represent the survey points. The block consists of a point entity and three text attributes: point number, elevation, description. If this is the case, you can DXFOUT the drawing and open it in SiteTopo and Save Points to get a text file of the points. http://sitetopo.com Quote
