Alspos Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Wondering if anyone can help, I have a part I am trying to import from Solidworks into Inventor. Each IGS or STP file I receive I can read, but the model is transparent with a coloured outline. I have asked the person at the other end to export it as a different material, but no success so far. I am not sure the person at the other end is too compentent...so that's probably half the problem. I have tried to grab the model and change the material, the colour changes slightly but remains transparent. Any suggestions on a.) changing the model in Inventor into a solid or b.) an export setting in Solidwork to tell the goose at the other end what I need. Thanks in advance Quote
JD Mather Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 You have to change the Options on import. You have it set to import as Composite mapping. You want to change to Construction group mapping. STEP should be the easiest to work with. Depending on the geometry from the other end this might be the only change you need. If this doesn't fix the problem can you zip and attach the original IGES and STEP files (or even the original SWx files) here. If you would like to figure it all out yourself you might try this "book" http://www.myvbooks.com/ac55jsp/stores/1/ML205-1P_Working_with_Neutral_P309C98.jsp Quote

Alspos Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 And just for information, importing and changing the setting works for STP, STEP files, but still does not work if you try it with IGS, IGES files. IGS ones still come in transparent (at least on my machine) Quote
JD Mather Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 IGS ones still come in transparent (at least on my machine) Check the other Options in import of the IGES, something like autostitch and promote, enable advanced healing... In general always request STEP (*.stp) rather than IGES. Quote
DaleLloyd7569 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 You can stitch the surface of the iges file once it is opened in inventor, the whole imported model selects as one surface. Quote
Lazer Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 If all fails right mouse click Composite (in the history tree) untick Translucent, this will not fix the problem with editing the model but it will allow you to change the colour of the model. But all the suggestion above are what I would do. Quote
