We have one specific user's machine in our department that the IT departmentcan't seem to fix. (have SP2 installed)

When the user plots, it takes about 25 seconds for the plot window to appear (also options dialog box, layers dialog box take a long time).

Our computers supposedly have the same setup, and I can't find any differences...mine works fine.

Any ideas on what to check, or do you know of a previous thread that may address this?

Thanks!

Does this happen in every drawing or only specific drawings?

Is he using the same version of the same program as you?

Does he have all hotfixes and service packs installed?

When is the last time he defragged his computer?

What are the specs of his computer?

Is he running a lot of other programs simultaneously that could be hogging system resources?

CAD64...answers to your questions in bold below.

Does this happen in every drawing or only specific drawings? Every Drawing.

Is he using the same version of the same program as you? Same version.. Autocad Mechanical 2008.

Does he have all hotfixes and service packs installed? SP2 installed...Hotfixes? Not sure.

When is the last time he defragged his computer? Recently, to try to address this problem.

What are the specs of his computer? Windows XP Pro, Intel Duo Core CPU, 2.1GHz, 2.0 GB Ram.

Is he running a lot of other programs simultaneously that could be hogging system resources? No. We closed all other apps to be sure.

Out IT dept is planning to re-install Autocad this week just to see if this may correct the issue. At the moment, they are as "stumped" as I am.

Thanks for your time.

It sounds like the program is looking for something. i had a similar issue when i had added a link to the left side of the open window, ya know where it says my documents, desktop, buzzsaw... i added a location on a server where our details were then something happened to that location and it tried looking there and couldnt find it and it was boggin it down bad.

I have the same problem all sp's and hotfixes installed, even got a new hard drive (old one had too many unneeded programs on it) tried defragging, repair, uninstall, nothing has worked, takes me two minutes to get a page plotted from the time of typing plot to the time of autocad finishing its processing and thats with a pagesetup already created and doesnt relate to file size it could be a blank dwg and takes the same amount of time also tried moving the plot information from our server to my comp to see if that helped any, unfortunately no. Let me know if you get a solution cuz im out of ideas and have just got used to it taking forever

Check the path statements for the printers (Options, Files, Printer Support File Path).

First verify that the paths are the correct ones, this is probably the problem.

The other problem will be if there are just a lot of pc3 files. I think AutoCAD does ok up to 20 then it starts to have problems above that number. Number is approximate.

Always check the Knowledge Base at autodesk.com.

Thanks rkent. We'll have a look at those suggestions. One problem with this is that "Options" also takes about 25 seconds for the dialog box to appear!!

Then for sure you have a path defined in options somewhere that doesn't exist. After checking the plot paths, check all the others, every single one.

Problem solved!!!

rkent, I think that you were close to the solution.

Our IT guy did re-install Autocad, but later found that it was the individual's network user profile that was different than everyone elses! Chelsea, maybe you should have this checked if you haven't already.

Thanks for everyone's input!
