I have a drawing that I recieved from another company. I'm not sure how old the drawing is or what version they were using when they created it or edited it. Over the last year or so I have been working with it and I consistantly get the same problem with line width when i create a new line or poly-line. The global width of the line is set at 8.26 units. I tried setting the line width to the default setting but that keeps it at 8.26 units. I can edit the line once it's drawn and change it to any width I want through the properties command. It's just a pain in the rear.

How can i set up the global with to a smaller line size so that i don't have to keep changing to a smaller line size?

Are we talking abouts lines or polylines?

Polylines can have width. Lines, depending on the version the drawing was created in, can have a lineweight assigned to the layer it was drawn on. For you to see this weight the Show/Hide Lineweight button must be toggled.

I have AutoCAD 2008. I am having this issue with Polylines, not lines. I can change the thickness of a line with the lineweight function.

Polylines? Good. There is an option in the polyline command to change the width.

Command: _pline

Specify start point:

Current line-width is 0

Specify next point or [Arc/Halfwidth/Length/Undo/Width]: w

Specify starting width : 0

Specify ending width : 0

Specify next point or [Arc/Halfwidth/Length/Undo/Width]:

Can you investigate the System variable PLINEWID and see what it is set to? It is saved in each drawing, so it only effects the one drawing.

Excellent. Thank you.
