Rock'n'roll Draughtsman Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Ryan, I would give my left cheek (either one) for such a command. Papagyi, I am using 2004, and JD, what do you mean ctrl select? Quote

Rock'n'roll Draughtsman Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Thanks, that's quite helpful actually! I can see how this would work for a simple solid such as a cube, but what about for something like the attached file? That's a crane end bogey. It's a piece of RHS with some of the bottom flange ground out (for wheels) and two holes in the side (one for wheel axle, one for pinion). These come in varying lenths. If I wanted to stretch the object from the middle of the RHS and keep the cutouts as they appear (so, essentially what a 2D stretch does), could I do that? Or do I have to start from scratch again? papagyi Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Through my experience, you can use "move" option from "solidedit". But you must type "c" for cross selection ..then you can select to stretch like as 2d!...pls try test first for simple box solid! Then you can do for your attach image! Quote

If I stretch my cube, it says "Modelling Operation Error: no solution for a vertex", and if I try to stretch my bogey, it says "Modelling Operation Error: No loop through new edges and vertices". I don't speak Autocad error. I know what a vertex is but I don't understand what the message means. Quote
papagyi Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 ok..fri..check it..this tutorial...http://www.cadopolis.com/autocad_addons/quick-draw-3d-stretch.shtml Quote
Rock'n'roll Draughtsman Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I think that's a product, not a tutorial. Looks like a handy product though, maybe I'll ask the company if we can buy it. But sadly, the very existence of this product is fairly convincing evidence that this function does not typically exist in Autocad. Quote
papagyi Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 no fri..I means ..."solidedit" enter "f" enter "m" enter "C" enter ..then.. do like this GIF image tutorials! Quote
Rock'n'roll Draughtsman Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 At the risk of sounding a little dim... You lost me. What GIF tutorial? I already tried those commands on my cube... came up with the vertex error... Aargh 4:30 on a Thursday is not a great time to think. Quote
stevsmith Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 On the link papagyi has supplied above, there is a small motion video showing a 3d stretch in action. (this is only for an example for what you ar looking to achieve.) Use the command solidedit and follow the instructions papagyi has givn you. Quote

The motion video shows the product it is advertising in action - not a normal CAD function. I did follow those instructions, and then posted the resulting error messages. Quote
